Social Media Questions Included on Visa Applications

Social Media Questions Included on Visa Applications

The Department of State (DOS) has added a new requirement for both people seeking temporary visas as well as new immigrants.  Now the government Form DS-160 for a non-immigrant visa and Form DS-260 for an immigrant visa require the applicant to answer a question about social media use.  The government forms have a drop-down list of 20 social media platforms which include:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • LinkedIn
  • Tumblr, among others

The forms require the visa applicant to provide his or her social media handles or usernames.

Soon there will be a requirement for visa applicants to provide 5 years of telephone numbers, email addresses, etc.

New Zealand Added to the List of E-2 Countries

A citizen of New Zealand may now apply for an E-2 investor visa.  E-2 visas require a substantial investment in a business enterprise.  Usually some U.S. employment creation is required.  New Zealand citizen E-2 visas can be valid for up to 5 years.  Please see my web page www.aboutvisas.com for details about E-2 visas.
